Is Your Heart Telling You Something? The Truth About HRV & Your Health

Updated: Feb 18

For someone with "Follow Your Heart" tattooed on them, I sure don’t always listen to what mine is trying to tell me! 🤦🏻‍♀️ In today’s fast-paced world, our bodies are constantly bombarded with physical, chemical, and emotional stressors. How well we adapt to these challenges plays a huge role in our overall health and wellness.

One key biomarker that measures this adaptability is Heart Rate Variability (HRV). And let’s be honest—when I look at my own HRV, it’s clear I haven’t exactly been following my heart. So, let’s dive in and talk about how we can all start tuning in and using HRV to guide us toward better health! ❤️

What is HRV?

HRV refers to the variation in time intervals between heartbeats. Contrary to what it might seem, a higher HRV indicates better health and resilience. It reflects the ability of your autonomic nervous system (ANS) to respond to changes in your environment, whether it's stress from work, pollutants in the air, or emotional ups and downs.

Why Does HRV Matter?

Research has shown that HRV is not just a number—it's a powerful indicator of your body's ability to handle stress and maintain health. Higher HRV is associated with better cardiovascular health, improved immune function, and even enhanced cognitive performance. It's like a window into how well your body is coping with the demands of daily life.

HRV and Lifespan

Studies have demonstrated a link between HRV and longevity. For instance, research published in Circulation indicates that a higher resting heart rate and decreased HRV are associated with increased mortality risk, while a lower resting heart rate correlates with health and longevity.

Chiropractic Care and HRV

Chiropractic care, particularly when focused on nervous system function, plays a pivotal role in enhancing HRV. By optimizing spinal alignment and reducing interference in the nervous system, chiropractors help improve communication between the brain and the body. This can lead to better overall health outcomes and increased HRV- making you as adaptable as your life demands!

As a part of our Share the Love Giveaway, we're offering FREE HRV scans to all friends and family throughout February. This quick, non-invasive assessment provides valuable insights into your nervous system function and how well your body is adapting to daily stressors. It's an opportunity to take charge of your health and track your progress over time.

Your HRV is more than just a number—it's a reflection of your body's ability to thrive in a challenging world. Through regular consistent nervous system-based chiropractic care, you can optimize your HRV and enhance your overall wellness.
